2021 Mazda3 Turbo vs 2020 Honda Civic

The fourth-generation Mazda3 emerged with styling and other features that set the standard in the segment. Winning awards such as World Car Design of the Year, experts concluded that it would be difficult to make the vehicle even better. However, with the help of Mazda3 owners, Mazda was persuaded to design one of the most promising sports sedans / hatchbacks of its class—perhaps of all time—the Mazda3 Turbo.

The Turbo is an game changer, and competitors are scrambling. Here, we compare it to the Honda Civic.

The Mazda3 Turbo pushes competitors aside with acclaimed performance

At the heart of the Turbo is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that is calibrated to unleash its turbocharged power only with the Mazda3. This offers a more dynamic and unique driving experience you won't find anywhere else. Each Turbo trim generates 250 horsepower and a responsive 320 lb-ft of torque when fueled with 93 octane gasoline. When using standard octane, the Turbo still outputs 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The Civic lowers its output with two engines available for its sedan and hatchback models. Most sedans include a 2.0L four-cylinder that produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Higher grades, such as the Touring and SI, include a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder that outputs a respective 174 and 205 horsepower. That's not even close to matching up with the Mazda3 Turbo. The hatchback doesn't do any better with the turbocharged option, either.

Honda also uses these engines across so many different Civic body types that they aren't truly unique to the vehicles they power. Advantage: Mazda3 Turbo.

The Mazda3 Turbo moves all wheels

A great car isn't all power. It knows how to distribute it, especially in challenging road conditions. The Turbo's i-Active AWD monitors and intelligently distributes power to wheels most in need. This enhances performance on dry roads and adds safety on wet roads. The Honda Civic lacks an all-wheel drive package. Even the highest grade levels have front-wheel drive.

The Turbo's Premium Package opens up a new world of safety technologies not found on the Honda Civic. Traffic Jam Assist, Smart Brake Support Rear, and Smart Brake Support Rear Crossing all support the generous technologies included across all models.
